In 2008, I was nineteen, unemployed and needed career direction.

I connected with a YMCA Career and Employment Centre Case Manager and together, we set short and long term goals and established a plan to improve my marketable skills. I then applied to the YMCA Skills Link Youth program where I developed new skills and began a work placement.

After my work term, the YMCA helped me secure funding through Skills Development, to return to school to upgrade my science education and attend a two year nursing program.

I recently graduated with a Practical Nurses Diploma from Nova Scotia Community College and was offered a position with the Cape Breton District Health Authority. It’s been six years of hard work and I am so grateful to have the support of the YMCA along the way.
