RE: Proof of Vaccination and Phase 5 Reopening
Dear Y Member,
The YMCA would like to take this opportunity to thank our members, participants, staff, and volunteers for their commitment to the health and safety of our community over the past several months.
On Monday, October 4, the Nova Scotia provincial government will implement a proof of vaccination requirement for individuals 12 years and over to participate in discretionary, non-essential events and activities. This will impact participation in YMCA health, fitness and aquatics programs and access to areas of the Frank Rudderham Family YMCA and Membertou YMCA facilities.
These are mandatory measures, and the YMCA will comply as of Monday October 4, 2021. As a result, all Y members and program volunteers are required to provide proof of vaccination to our Membership Services Staff starting Monday, October 4, 2021.
Your proof of vaccination (POV) can be shared on your cell phone or by paper copy. Once our Membership Services team has confirmed your POV, you may enter the YMCA membership area. We will update your account, so you will not need to show your POV the next time you visit the YMCA.
As outlined by Nova Scotia Health, individuals with a valid medical reason that prevents vaccination are required to obtain an exception letter from their physician or nurse practitioner. To learn more about this policy please visit: http://novascotia.ca/POV.
The proof of vaccination (POV) policy does not apply to our Early Learning Centre or Nova Scotia Works Employment Services Centres.
To avoid wait times on Monday, we welcome our members to show their proof of vaccination cards to our welcome desk staff at their earliest convenience. Please be patient as you may experience wait times when entering the Y. We recommend arriving at the Y at least 10 minutes prior to your program or class to allow sufficient time.
Important: Although the vaccination requirements are for those 12 years and over, please note that adults accompanying a child/children to a Y program, including swim lessons, will be required to provide proof of vaccination upon facility entry.
In addition, Nova Scotia will enter a modified Phase 5 of the province’s reopening plan effective October 4. As a result, the following adjustments will be made to our health, fitness, and aquatics operations:
· Social distancing signs and floor markers will be removed
· One way traffic signs will be removed
· Some of the protective barriers at the front desk will be removed
· Water fountains will be opened
· All lockers and showers will be opened
· Steam rooms will re-open
· All Wellness Centre cardio equipment will be available
· The walking track will be back (this may take a few days to reconfigure)
· Additional spaces will be open in select group fitness classes
Masks will continue to be mandatory in indoor public places including all YMCA facilities. To learn more please review our Q&A's on our website: http://capebreton.ymca.ca/About-Us/FAQs.
Please stay healthy and safe, and we look forward to seeing you soon.
