The YMCA of Cape Breton is looking for a dynamic individual to join our team!

The Opportunity

Position Summary

Reporting to YMCA of Cape Breton Director of Member Relations, the Marketing and Communications Specialist will be responsible for assisting with marketing and communications tasks to effectively market the YMCA of CB programs and services. They will also assist with capturing member and client stories and testimonials, support our social media platforms, as well as lend some administrative assistant to our fund development activities and grants.


Canada Summer Jobs Eligibility:

  • Under the age of 30 years
  • Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or Refugee Status
  • Valid Social Insurance Number


  • Completed a minimum of one year in a bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field and/or related experience;
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and presentation skills;
  • Exceptional attention to detail;
  • Able to work independently and effectively with others
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal skills; and
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Note: Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check. Employees will be required to attend YMCA Child Protection Training.



  • Work with YMCA Managers to develop marketing goals for the various YMCA program and service offerings and advise on advertising opportunities;
  • Analyze market trends, competitor offerings and demographics
  • Apply branding guidelines to YMCA programs, programs and services to ensure standardization, professionalism and consistency;
  • Develop and implement advertising campaigns appropriate for print or electronic media;
  • Gather, research and prepare communications material for internal and external audiences;
  • Collect impact stories from members, volunteers, clients and donors;
  • Attend events and capture content for social media;
  • Develop, implement and evaluate communications strategies and programs designed to inform internal staff, members, clients and community partners;
  • Conduct member surveys to identify the interests and concerns of key groups served by our organization;
  • Prepare and deliver informational materials to increase awareness of programs and services;
  • Maintain or assist in the management of website and social media platforms; and
  • Other duties as assigned.
