The Opportunity
The Basketball 3×3 Program Leader is responsible for supporting the planning, organization, and delivery of the YMCA 3×3 Basketball League. This includes coordinating participant registrations, organizing teams, preparing schedules, supervising games, ensuring fair play, promoting sportsmanship, and creating a positive athletic experience for youth participants. The Program Leader will work closely with YMCA staff, participants, and families to ensure a safe, inclusive, and well-organized program.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Coordinate and assist with participant registration and program administration.
- Organize teams and support player placement to ensure balanced competition.
- Develop and communicate league schedules, game times, and team assignments.
- Officiate and supervise league games for youth ages 12-18.
- Explain and enforce 3×3 basketball rules.
- Facilitate warm-ups and skill development activities as required.
- Maintain a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.
- Encourage positive behaviour, teamwork, and respectful competition.
- Monitor participant conduct and address conflicts appropriately.
- Assist with scorekeeping and game timing.
- Communicate effectively with participants, families, volunteers, and YMCA staff.
- Support league setup and cleanup activities.
- Assist with championship week events and skills challenges.
- Act as a positive role model and mentor for youth participants.
- Provide feedback and recommendations for program improvement.
Skills and Qualifications
- Interest in youth sports and recreation.
- Knowledge of basketball fundamentals and rules.
- Experience coaching, refereeing, organizing leagues, or working with youth is
considered an asset. - Strong organizational, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to engage, motivate, and build positive relationships with youth participants.
- Experience with scheduling, team organization, and program administration is
considered an asset. - Current First Aid/CPR Certification or willingness to obtain.

Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check/ Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registry Check. They will also be required to attend YMCA Child Protection Training, as well as successfully complete First Aid and CPR training.
