Do you love working with people and igniting the potential in others? The YMCA of Cape Breton is seeking a dynamic, motivated and energetic individuals to join our team as Lifeguards in our Aquatics division.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Aquatics Manager, Lifeguards are responsible for providing excellent service in all Aquatic Programs and will ensure the safety and well-being of all participants in the aquatic area.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Lifeguard for various YMCA programs.
  • Continuously build relationships with the members, participants, staff and volunteers of the YMCA.
  • Ensure all safety and lifeguarding procedures are adhered to, and in the event of an emergency respond as trained within your scope of practice.
  • Maintain records as needed, including log sheets, facility maintenance items and daily checklists.
  • Work as part of a team to always ensure a clean and well-maintained facility at all times.
  • Identify and create opportunities to enhance each person’s YMCA experience.
  • To maintain current qualifications as required by this position.
  • Ability to work a flexible work week including days, evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

  • NLS (National Lifeguard Service Award)
  • Standard First Aid, CPR C
  • YMCA and/or Red Cross / Lifesaving Instructor certification
  • Current WHMIS certification preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Note: Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check/ Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registry Check. They will also be required to attend YMCA Child Protection Training, as well as successfully complete First Aid and CPR training.
