The Opportunity

Are you an energetic, organized individual who loves working with children and thrives in a dynamic environment? As the Summer Day Camp Lead, you will oversee daily camp operations, ensuring activities run smoothly and safely. You will manage communication with campers’ parents, support and mentor Day Camp Counsellors, and handle camper behavior issues and conflicts. Your role is crucial in maintaining a fun, safe, and engaging camp experience for all participants.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Oversee daily camp operations and ensure activities run smoothly.
  • Manage the camp phone, communicating with campers’ parents.
  • Take charge of attendance at the start of the day, including time stamps, and reach out to parents if a child is not present.
  • Ensure campers to Counsellor ratios are followed
  • Support and mentor Day Camp Counsellors.
  • Handle camper behavior issues and conflicts professionally.
  • Ensure all safety protocols are followed.
  • Lead and organize walking trips while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Perform safety assessments/checks each time children are taken to the playground.
  • Facilitate activities and crafts for the children.
  • Assist with planning and organizing special events and field trips, ensuring safety checks are performed.
  • Organize and take inventory of camp supplies, reaching out to the camp coordinator when more supplies are needed.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a leadership role, preferably in a camp or youth program setting.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to handle conflicts and behavior issues professionally.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures.
  • Creative and energetic personality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • CPR/First Aid certification is required

Please Note:

Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check/ Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registry Check. They will also be required to attend YMCA Child Protection Training, as well as successfully complete First Aid and CPR training.
