The EDGE program is looking for a dynamic self-starter to join our team as a Workshop Facilitator, supporting our innovative youth employment program.

The Opportunity

Position Summary

EDGE – Cape Breton offers programming to youth aged 18-26 who face multiple barriers to obtaining and maintaining meaningful employment in our community. A Workshop Facilitator enables group learning sessions designed to lead to enhanced employment-related knowledge and skill acquisition. They use Adult Learning Principles to tailor group activities towards meeting career-life planning needs for diverse client groups. It is paramount that the Workshop Facilitator demonstrate cultural humility and embrace inclusive practices, creating a safe and welcoming space for everyone.

The Workshop Facilitator will:

  • Plan, develop, and facilitate engaging workshops on topics such as job search strategies, resume and cover letter writing, interview techniques, networking, life skills, and employability skills.
  • Use inclusive, accessible teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles, educational backgrounds, and abilities. Respond, redirect, and resolve inner group conflicts in a respectful manner.
  • Utilize digital tools and learning platforms to enhance participant engagement and increase accessibility and reach.
  • Monitor learning outcomes, gather feedback, and assess the effectiveness of workshops to continuously improve content and delivery.
  • Keep detailed, confidential client records using web-based systems, in compliance with organizational privacy policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop and refine programs and services that respond to changing client needs and labor market trends. Prepare reports on program activities related to role.
  • Attend regular team meetings and engage in training opportunities to stay current with best practices in facilitation and workforce development. Support other roles during peak program times.

Skills and Competencies
General

  • Good knowledge of community organizations and referral agencies
  • Ability to access and effectively use information and communications technology; conduct research
  • Working knowledge of career development theory and applications – considered an asset
  • Adherence to inclusionary practice, ethical decision making, respect for diversity, confidentiality
  • Working knowledge of employment/career related services, programs and interventions

Facilitation

  • Ability to design, organize, and implement group sessions with diverse client groups
  • Good understanding of Adult Learning Principles
  • Understanding of program evaluation concepts as it relates to participants

Qualifications

  • Degree or post-secondary education in Adult Education or related field of study, or a combination of education and work-related experience;
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills – experience working with cloud computing and collaborative tools (e.g., Teams), considered an asset;
  • Experience with audio and video conferencing tools (e.g. Zoom) and course authoring software, considered an asset;
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple, competing deadlines and tasks;
  • Demonstrated discretion and sound judgment in the handling of confidential information;
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in the resolution of issues, process improvement, and evaluation;
  • A high level of initiative is needed to work independently and respond to unanticipated challenges;
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, and;
  • Schedule flexibility to accommodate variations outside of regular business hours, as needed.

Note: Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registry Check. Employees will be required to attend YMCA Child Protection Training. Travel may be required.
