Membership Assistance

At the YMCA, our purpose is to help individuals grow in spirit, mind, and body through a supportive network, and we work hard to make sure that money is not a barrier for anyone to join us.

If you need financial assistance so that you or a loved one can participate in a YMCA program, we are here to help.

Financial Assistance Info

YMCA uses the information you provide and compares it to the Government of Canada’s Low Income Cut-Off Chart to determine your eligibility.

We try to make our membership as accessible as possible, however, your request could be denied if your financial information does not identify an inability to pay for the fees.

Yes, if you wish to discuss further, please make an appointment with the Membership Supervisor or Manager.

Please keep all information and fees discussed confidential and complete all payments on time. And that you enjoy all that the Y has to offer!

Everyone must pay some portion of the membership/program fee.

Yes, once an application is approved all supporting documentation are shredded.

We’re able to subsidize memberships and programs for people of all ages thanks to individuals and businesses who donate to our Annual Fundraising Campaign! We would also like to recognize the significant contribution to the Financial Assistance Fund thanks to Medavie Foundation and United Way Cape Breton.
